Fourth of July

Firework Celebrations

guest blogger: Holly Ryan
As summer leads into July, we, as a country, are able to celebrate America’s independence on the beloved date of the 4th of July. This holiday has great meaning to our country’s foundation, and we, as Americans, surely make this known by our grand celebrations that occur throughout our country on that day. When people think of the Fourth of July, most associate it with fireworks. But what has created for the connection between this national holiday and the celebrations with fireworks that light up our skies nationwide?
241 years ago, on America’s first day of independence, July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the first display of celebratory fireworks entered the sky, shaping the way that our country would celebrate its birthday forever. According to the American Pyrotechnics Association, there are more than 14,000 showcases of fireworks through the country’s skies during the 4th of July.
To ensure that you don’t miss out on the traditional celebrations of America’s most beloved holiday, be sure to check out the firework displays that will occur on the Fourth of July in the Charleston area!
Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum
Patriots Point is offering a Fourth of July event on the water on the USS Yorktown warship. This event will take place at the Charleston Harbor on July 4th from 5 pm to 9:30 pm. It will include four different options for viewing the fireworks. There is a VIP ticket, which is $110 per person. It includes drinks from the on-ship bar, a barbeque meal, a unique viewing area with seating accommodations, and entertainment from the East Coast Party Band.
The second option is the Flight Deck Admission Ticket, which is $40 per person. This includes access to the flight deck with an area to sit in folding chairs, access to the live band, and purchase food and drinks. Patriots Point also offers a free space to watch the fireworks from a grassy spot near the marsh. There is a $10 parking charge for all visitors. It sounds like the perfect place for some waterfront firework festivities!
Riverfront Park
Riverfront Park in North Charleston offers a festival on the 4th of July that is free to the public. The festival provides food trucks, live band performances, different vendors, and many activities to keep your children entertained and happy. Festivities take place from 3 pm to 9:45 pm. The festival has free parking in an offsite lot and offers a shuttle service to the grounds. A perfect, simple way to celebrate the Fourth!
Whether you’re someone who wishes to enjoy the fireworks from the distance and comfort of your own backyard, or if you’re someone who wants to be right in the center of the action at either of these festivals, take time to remember the importance of these significant fireworks. The Fourth of July reminds us that we are the land of the free because of the brave!

     Happy Independence Day everyone!
