Guest Blogger: Holly Ryaan

Spring has finally sprung, and with this change in the seasons, comes a whole new outlook on the outdoors. Now that the cold weather has passed us, it’s time to enjoy the blooming flowers, the warming sun, and all other pleasantries the outdoors bring us during springtime.

With that being said, in order to best enjoy your outdoor space, freshening it up a bit can have a positive impact on your enjoyment of the season. Regardless of whether you’re looking for a whole new backyard renovation or just a few outdoor refresher tips, you’ve come to the right place! The following are great ways to revitalize your outdoors to have an ideal space for relaxing and enjoying the new season.

First things first, spring cleaning. Although it may sound cliche, throwing away your unneeded and unwanted belongings can be a great place to start off your spring season. Doing this annually can guarantee you’ll never accumulate too much clutter inside and outside of your home. This also makes room for anything new you may purchase or create for the upcoming seasons!

Next, landscaping is essential to your property’s upkeep and presentation. It is important to figure out early on in the spring how you’d like to keep your land manicured. Will you or someone in your household be responsible for cutting and watering the lawn, upkeeping the bushes, and anything else to execute your lawn care? Or will you hire a landscaping company to manage it? Either way, landscaping can greatly enhance your property’s presentation and is an essential element to should consider when refreshing your outdoors for the springtime.

Along with landscaping, planting flowers or building a garden can be a fun and simple way to start off the spring season. Some of the best bulbs to plant in the spring include crocuses, daffodils, tulips, snakes head fritillaries, and hyacinths. Planting any of these colorful flowers can drastically brighten up your outdoors and can provide refreshing signs of life to your garden. For the Charleston area, the best vegetables to plant in your garden during the springtime are brussel sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, corn, and squash. Urban Farmer shares an informational schedule on the best vegetables to plant for your area.

Aside from gardening and landscaping, there are a few other ways to freshen up your outdoors for the spring season. After a long winter, your home’s exterior may need a spring cleaning. A simple way to do this is to hire a professional to powerwash your home, to restore it to its cleanest potential. From this, any areas that may need to be touched up in your home’s exterior will be exposed. You can simply revive your home by giving it a new paint job. If you’re not ready for the undertaking of repainting your whole home, you can simplify the update by repainting just your doors or the exterior trim. If you have a patio, consider power washing it to freshen it up as well!

If you already have patio furniture, bringing it out is a great way to start enjoying the spring weather. If you don’t own some, patio furniture is a great investment and a perfect way to embrace the spring season. Hopefully, these tips can provide insight on where to get started to refresh your home this spring season!
