Along with May flowers and warm weather, the month of May brings the unofficial start of summer that many know as, Memorial Day Weekend. Memorial Day remembers our country’s brave fallen soldiers who have fought for our freedom. Accompanying Memorial Day Weekend are celebrations, honoring our country’s armed forces and the start of the summertime. Memorial Day is traditionally the last Monday of the month, and this year it lands on May 27th. Throughout the month of May, the Charleston area offers many great events leading up to the holiday weekend and the unofficial start to summer. Here’s a list of things to do to soak up the sun and enjoy the month of May!
The North Charleston Arts Festival kicks off the month of May, offering 5 days of rich cultural art forms on a local and a national level. This festival will be held from May 1st through May 5th and will take place in multiple locations throughout the Northern Charleston area, offering music, dance, theatrical performances, photography, literature, and other crafts. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, for the 7th annual Cinco de Mayo block party fiesta! The event will take place in West Ashley, and will offer live music and entertainment, including flamethrowers and mixed martial arts professionals. This year marks the 49th Annual Greek Festival for Charleston! From May 10th through May 12th, the Greek Orthodox Church will host Charleston’s 3rd largest festival, raising money for local charity organizations. Have a complete cultural experience having authentic greek food and wine, touring the church, and watching the live entertainment of music and performances.
