The Volvo Car Open, formerly known as the Family Circle Cup, kicks off its 43rd year tomorrow, April 2nd and lasts through Thursday, April 10th. Past champions have included both Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, and Caroline Wozniacki. Venus and Caroline will be back this year along with Jelena Jankovic. For a full schedule and ticket information, you can visit http://www.volvocaropen.com.
The Open started out on Hilton Head Island in 1973 before moving to Charleston in 2001, with the hope to bring notice to women in professional sports. The tournament has surpassed many milestones, including being the first women’s event broadcasted on TV and the first women’s tennis event to offer a $100,000 prize. The move to Charleston started a partnership between the City of Charleston and the Family Circle magazine that helped build a state-of-the-art facility to also be used by the community.
Today it is said to be the largest women’s only tennis tournament in the world. Fans from all over the country visit Charleston for the Volvo Car Open. Will you be traveling to Charleston for the tournament? Have you been thinking of relocating to the area. Call us today?
