A Few Fall Events Around Charleston
Guest Blogger: Cameron Dixon
Fall is here and just because the season of summer has come to an end does not mean that there is a lack of fun events in and around Charleston for residents and visitors of the Lowcountry to enjoy! Let’s look at some of these happenings coming up soon so that you can get them marked on your calendars!
Oktoberfest on Daniel Island is held every year at the MUSC Health Stadium (formerly known as the Volvo Car Stadium and where the Charleston Battery plays). This day of enjoying German music and beer never seems to disappoint! This festival has evolved into a fantastic community picnic with an array of outdoor activities and games for adults and children! Friends and families can come out and enjoy the event and each other’s company from 12 pm-6 pm on Sunday, October 27th.
If you’re looking for fun and LOTS of food, check out the Taste of Charleston event being held at Riverfront Park. Along with some fabulous food, there will be live music and chef demonstrations for all to enjoy. Experience the Charleston dining scene with a preloaded wristband- this event is completely cashless! The Taste of Charleston is taking place on Sunday, October 13th.
With Fall comes Halloween and the need to experience some spooky scenes, trick-or-treating, and scary activities! The Lowcountry Halloween Fest is a special trick-or-treat event taking place for families at Citadel Mall on Sunday, October 27th. For adults, the Halloween Bar Crawl on King Street takes place on Saturday, October 19th starting at 3 pm at The Brick, a tavern located on Ann Street. There is even a costume contest taking place at this event! And also for adults, take a haunted hayride through the woods at Boone Hall Fright Nights located in Mount Pleasant. Tickets are available online and the haunted hayrides start taking place in late September on Thursdays through Sundays.
If you love arts and crafts, then the 12th Annual Arts and Crafts Fair at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is the place for you! Called “Autumn on the Ashley,” this festival hosts dozens of Lowcountry crafters and vendors displaying their handcrafted items for sale. There will also be a plant sale to accompany the fair! Get a jump start on your Christmas shopping and search out some fantastic gifts at this event! It will occur on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th from 9am to 5pm.
Also at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, the Lights of Magnolia is an event that features 9 acres of fabulous Chinese themed lanterns and 23 displays that you are able to walk through. Every day from 5:30pm to 9:30pm you can come enjoy the light displays, and there are even food trucks on site that you can purchase from! The Lights of Magnolia event starts on November 15th and runs through March of 2020.
Don’t forget the James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights! This annual light show features tens of thousands of lights arranged into various displays and scenes for all to enjoy! The event is held rain or shine every night of the week starting at 5:30pm on November 15th. It also features a gift shop, marshmallow roasting, and visits with Santa!
Lastly, check out some of the shows coming to town at the North Charleston Coliseum this Fall. Chris Stapleton will be playing on Thursday, October 17th. Disney On Ice returns to the coliseum the first weekend in November, and don’t forget our South Carolina Stingrays, who kick off their ice hockey season October 29th!
No matter your taste, there is always something fun going on in Charleston for all to enjoy. Check online for more information on these and more events happening this Fall in the Lowcountry!
