I’ve compiled a list that highlights the top five family-friendly areas in Charleston County according to Niche.com! These are the perfect communities to either start your family or watch yours continue to grow.

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

This is a great location for families to plant their roots as it offers excellent public schools for Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is a suburban area with a population of 78,000 people. The median home value in Mount Pleasant in $393,800, and it has a 69% to 31% ratio of homeownership to rentership

Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina

This is deemed another notable area for raising a family near Charleston.  The median home value is $1,218,400, making it a higher-priced area; however, the view can make it worth it as it is the entrance to the Charleston Harbor. This town is on the smaller side, which is definitely a positive if you’re looking for a very personable area. It has a population of roughly 2,000 people. Sullivan’s Island is ranked number three out of 190 for the best public schools in South Carolina. 

Isle of Palms, South Carolina

This is another smaller populated family-friendly community in the Charleston area. With a population of 4,320 and a median home value of $777,200, the Isle of Palms can be the perfect suburban area for your new home. It is ranked number four out of 190 for the best public schools in South Carolina and offers an excellent beachfront view. 

Folly Beach, South Carolina

Folly Beach offers a more rural feel, making it a great place for those looking for more land around their property. The median home value is $530, 400 and it has been ranked the number one place for millennials to live in South Carolina. Out of its 2,732 residents, it has a 57% to 43% ratio of homeownership to rentership

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is ranked the fifth best place to raise a family in Charleston County. It offers a more city-suburban feel with a median household value of $269,400. It is ranked number 34 out of 228 for the best cities to live in America. Charleston offers 54 public schools ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade, and 16 private schools.
