This 1800’s Victorian home is occupied by three known ghosts, two sisters, and a dog named Poogan. The historic home was purchased in 1976 and transformed into a restaurant named after the pup himself, Poogan's Porch. Staff and guests of this restaurant have had many different encounters with the paranormal residents of this home! Have a delicious meal at Poogan’s Porch and meet the ghosts that inhabit it yourself!
Old City Jail
Known as one of the country’s most haunted sites, Old City Jail is renowned for its haunted history. This famous jail has been featured on multiple shows for its spooky legends regarding some of Charleston’s most dangerous late criminals dating back to 1802. Although this spot is closed to the public, you can experience the jail’s haunted corridors by planning a tour with Bulldog Tours.
Battery Carriage Inn
Are you willing to test your limits and stay overnight in a haunted inn? Experience the feeling of sharing a room with fellow paranormal guests at the Battery Carriage Inn. Rooms three, eight, and ten are known for their exceptional hauntings as guests have reported many first-hand encounters with ghosts. This inn dates back to the 1840s and its ghosts themselves are said to be remnants from the Civil War.
These are just a few of the many haunted locations throughout Charleston that are great to explore not only during Halloween but all year round!
Checking out different haunted sites is all fun and games, but what if you’re looking to sell a home that’s known to be “haunted”? First, we’d like to say that it is defintiely possible and that it’s actually super beneficial to be upfront about the home’s history! Oftentimes, buyers are looking for homes with character, and a historical background can sometimes entice the right buyer even more than you’d think. Many people are fascinated by paranormal activity and would be more than happy to purchase your home if it’s the right fit and price for them. Make sure that you are flexible with interested buyers, as they too may work to settle on a price that they are comfortable with when purchasing your haunted home. Like selling any other home, make sure that you have the proper real estate team supporting you who have expertise on the market. The JCRE team would love to help you sell your haunted home, especially this Halloween season!
